Overview
You book your own leave from the HR section. Each request goes to your line manager for approval, and the days come off your allowance as soon as you ask, so your balance always shows what you have left to book.
Booking Leave
- 1
Go to HR → Leave and click Book leave (or press N). You can also press CMD+K anywhere and choose Book leave, or pick Leave request from Add New.
- 2
Choose a Leave type: Annual leave, Compassionate, Unpaid or Other.
- 3
Pick a Start date and End date. For a half day, tick Half day (morning only) under the start date or Half day (afternoon only) under the end date.
- 4
Add a reason if you want to, then click Submit request.
Under the dates, the dialog shows how many days the booking uses and how many you'll have left. Weekends, bank holidays and days you don't normally work are not counted.
If colleagues in your department are already off over the same dates, the dialog says so before you submit. You can still book; it's there so you and your manager can plan.
After You Submit
Your request shows as Pending on HR → Leave and on the leave calendar. You get a notification when your manager approves or declines it. A declined request shows the reason your manager gave.
To change your mind while a request is still pending, cancel it from HR → Leave. The days go back on your balance. To cancel leave that has already been approved, ask your manager or HR.
Your Balance
HR → Leave shows your allowance for the leave year, any days carried over from last year, what you've used, what's pending and what's left. The user menu shows the same figure as My HR. If you don't accrue annual leave on your account, ask HR to set up your staff record.
